Future DiverCities:
Twinning Hub in Marseille

As part of the Future DiverCities program, Aks Creative Hub took part in the Twinning Hub exchange hosted by La Friche Belle de Mai and Chroniques in Marseille. In this five days, we explored how placemaking can reclaim underused public spaces and foster new forms of belonging, creativity, and collaboration.

Our starting point was the Garden Crimee pilot site, where we adapted our Dream-It, Order-It, Walk-It methodology to the cultural and linguistic context of Marseille. Reframed as "À table, À emporter, À l’infini", the three steps created a playful yet rooted approach:

À table (“Order It”): inviting residents to voice their needs and wishes like placing an order.

À emporter (“Walk It”): walking together to observe, reflect, and embody the neighbourhood experience.

À l’infini (“Dream It”): opening up collective imagination towards infinite future possibilities.

The exchange unfolded as a layered journey: listening to local voices in La Belle de Mai, walking and mapping the neighbourhood, collecting “orders” from residents, and transforming these into shared dreams through performative interventions. On the final day, we presented our findings through visual maps, thematic clusters, and narrative reflections, not as conclusions, but as seeds for further collaboration.

Beyond the workshops, we immersed ourselves in Marseille’s cultural life at La Friche: attending the opening of the Modern Art Fair in the exhibition hall and joining the rooftop concert of La Fiesta des Suds, where residents, local artists, and visitors mingled in a vibrant atmosphere. These experiences showed us La Friche not only as a project site but as a living creative hub, connecting art, music, and everyday urban life.

Reclaim the NEBourhoods, we witnessed how placemaking, when embedded in local culture and shared creativity, can unlock new ways of belonging and transformation in Marseille and beyond.
