The New European Bauhaus has been exploring innovative approaches to policymaking since 2021, mobilizing citizens’ creativity and strengthening their confidence in the transformations to come. With its strong focus on transdisciplinary conversations, it wants to enable culture and technology, innovation and design, engineering, craft, the arts, and science to work hand in hand to create a better tomorrow. NEB has also shaped the world producing many different opportunities for designers and communities. Examples can be given such as:
Sustainable Architecture and Housing Projects: Many architectural firms and housing developers around the world are increasingly incorporating NEB principles into their designs. These projects aim to create environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing buildings that promote energy efficiency and sustainable living. For example, the construction of energy-efficient, low-carbon emission housing complexes and office buildings.
Green Infrastructure and Urban Planning: Several cities globally are adopting NEB-inspired urban planning and green infrastructure projects. These initiatives involve redesigning public spaces, parks, and transportation systems to prioritize sustainability, accessibility, and aesthetics. This may include creating green corridors, improving public transportation, and enhancing urban green spaces.
Circular Economy Initiatives: Projects focusing on the circular economy align with NEB's sustainability goals. These efforts aim to reduce waste and promote the reuse, recycling, and repurposing of materials. For instance, initiatives to turn waste plastics into building materials or furniture.
Community Engagement and Artistic Installations: NEB emphasizes the involvement of local communities and the arts in shaping sustainable solutions. This can include art installations, cultural events, and community workshops that raise awareness of sustainability issues and promote creativity in problem-solving.
Educational and Research Programs: Many universities and research institutions worldwide are developing programs and research projects related to NEB principles. These initiatives explore innovative approaches to sustainability, design, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Digital Platforms and Apps: Some projects aim to leverage technology and digital platforms to connect people and resources in support of NEB goals. This might include apps or websites that facilitate the sharing of sustainable practices, ideas, and resources.
Green Innovation Hubs: Certain regions are establishing innovation hubs or clusters dedicated to sustainable design and technology. These hubs bring together entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors to develop and scale up sustainable innovations.
