Green Skills and Environmental Awareness Training

by Using Human-Centered Design

Between March 23-27, 2022, for the Generation UnLimited in Turkey project in cooperation with UNICEF and ICHILD, we came together with 11 young friends and had the chance to train them under the titles of "Human-Centered Design", "Creativity", "Green Skills" and "Conceptualization"! Within the scope of the program, courses and workshops focused on education, training and practice were held with participants between the ages of 16-23. Participants with at least 1 volunteering experience generally work on sustainable future and climate change. Within the scope of the program, a training focused on human-oriented design, environmental awareness and green skills was organized in Gebze between 23-27 March in order to contribute to the knowledge of the participants, reinforce them and enable them to take action. At the same time, within the scope of the training, we also worked on how to convey these issues to their peers and how they can reach more people in their daily lives! The aim has been determined as the transfer of information and practices from peer to peer, while teaching and creating an environment of discussion and questioning. While designing the training, it was important to be interactive. A process has been planned in which the participants will learn the summary theoretical knowledge during the courses, and internalize the knowledge they have learned with the workshops, assimilate and produce. The program was completed in three days and the first two days were spent with lectures and workshops, while the following days, the participants were divided into groups and asked "How do you spread environmental awareness and what do you think is the problem?" While creating a guidebook with the answers they gave to the question, they also produced three modules with the solutions they found to the problem. On the first day of the program, the subjects of cognition, creativity and human-oriented design, how they learn how to learn, were discussed. On the second day, the issues of climate crisis and environmental awareness were covered. The third day was built on learning expression methods and creating a module design. These modules, which are mentioned in detail in the content of the report and criticisms made by the trainers for their development, are as follows; Awareness Campaign, World Saving Guide, Digital Green Skills Training Package. Trainers: Berkutay Coşkun, Cemre Gökpınar, Dilara Güney, Furkan Türk, Naz Şerife Özcan, Zeynep Ünsal.
